The University of British Columbia, The BC Ministry of Education, and the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC were presented with a large task: Reduce the risk of harm to the students and faculty across the province from earthquakes. Many of the schools are old and require upgrades, retrofits, and in some cases full replacement. Which ones pose the greatest risk and should be addressed first? That’s where the Seismic Analyzer comes in.
The Seismic Analyzer represents an innovative approach to the seismic retrofit of existing school buildings. This tool is innovative for a number of reasons, one compelling reason being that, for the first time, Engineers are relieved of the complexities of performing sophisticated, probabilistic non-linear dynamic analysis. The Analyzer does this for the experienced Engineering user. The Analyzer incorporates a large database of analysis results for a comprehensive parametric array of different structural systems.
The Analyzer is an advanced engineering tool that complements, rather than displaces, Engineering judgement and experience. The Analyzer is intended to enhance British Columbian seismic engineering practice through its prudent use within the engineering community.
